It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Hey there!  Welcome to It’s Monday, What Are You Reading!

I love being a part of this and I hope you do too!  As part of this weekly meme I love to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme. Fair warning… this meme tends to add to your reading list!

I hope everyone had a good week.  I did!  We had book club this week, and I am finally getting into the Christmas mood… which is typical for me… it takes me a while to get there 😉

Here is what I posted this week:

Ladies Night by Mary Kay Andrews

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

The Bookies Christmas Party

Pain Parties Work by Elizabeth Winder (The Sylvia Plath Story)

An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatfield

When I Practice To Deceive by Ann Rule (“Meh” of the week)

Homemade Caramels – a recipe for you (oh… and for me too!)

also these challenges coming up:

WHAT Are You Reading Challenge 2014

Bucket List Challenge 2014

First Book Of The Year 2014

It feels good to be an active blogger again!  😀  So for this week I am cruising right along into these:

For Scarlet, raising her two daughters alone means fighting for tomorrow is an everyday battle. Nathan has a wife, but can’t remember what it’s like to be in love; only his young daughter Zoe makes coming home worthwhile. Miranda’s biggest concern is whether her new VW Bug is big enough to carry her sister and their boyfriends on a weekend escape from college finals.

When reports of a widespread, deadly “outbreak” begin to surface, these ordinary people face extraordinary circumstances and suddenly their fates are intertwined. Recognizing they can’t outrun the danger, Scarlet, Nathan, and Miranda desperately seek shelter at the same secluded ranch, Red Hill. Emotions run high while old and new relationships are tested in the face of a terrifying enemy—an enemy who no longer remembers what it’s like to be human.

I smoked through this one in the last couple of days… review this week!

They had nothing in common until love gave them everything to lose . . .

Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.

Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.

Just started this one this afternoon 😀

In Parkland (originally titled Four Days in November), author Vincent Bugliosi “has definitively explained the murder that recalibrated modern America” (Jim Newton, Los Angeles Times Book Review). Releasing this fall, the movie—starring Paul Giamatti, Zac Efron, Jacki Weaver, and Billy Bob Thornton—follows a group of individuals making split-second decisions after this incomprehensible event: the doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital, the chief of the Dallas Secret Service, the cameraman who captured what has become the most examined film in history, the FBI agents who had gunman Lee Harvey Oswald within their grasp, and Vice President Lyndon Johnson who had to take control of the country at a moment’s notice. Based on Vincent Bugliosi’s Reclaiming HistoryParkland is the story of that day.

I started this last week and ooh… it is good!

Luke’s life is about to take a dangerous turn.
But first he has to die.

In the year 2052, high school sophomore Luke Gibson considers himself an average teenager in a world on the brink of monumental change. Joining his parents and sister, Laura, at the first World Energy Initiative Conference, he is among thousands gathered in a Denver arena to celebrate free renewable energy when a massive earthquake strikes killing everyone in the stadium. The last thing Luke sees before his death is a girl reaching out to him–a stranger whose face he remembers from his dreams.

The end, however, is not the end. Suddenly, inexplicably, Luke is back home in Ohio and everything is different. His sister is gone, the victim in an unsolved homicide years before. Angela, his mysterious dream girl, is here also, and the only person besides Luke who recalls the previous reality. And now their determination to uncover the truth about Laura’s murder and their transformed world is making them targets–forced to flee for their lives from a nameless shadow organization and a government seeking vengeance for an unthinkable act of terror–as they stand on the threshold of a dark conspiracy that threatens all humankind.

I am reading this one for a blog tour this week.

Beyond that I have a few books I have started but have yet to finish that I would like to work on cleaning up before year end.  How about you?  What are you reading this end of December?  I would love to know!  Please add your What Are You Reading link to the link below where it says click here:

  1. I am going to be reading Me Before You soon as it is a book group pick for our January meeting. I can’t wait. It sounds amazing!

Red Hill looks interesting. I might have to use it as a selection for my library’s Blind Date With a Book reading program this winter.

I have been listening to Christmas music since before Thanksgiving but I still feel like I am not quite in the Christmas spirit. Hope I get there soon 🙂

  2. You’ve got a lot going on as always. 🙂 Platform 21 looks like my style – I’ll be interested in your thoughts.
I had to check your WHAT Challenge as I thought you might have meant WHERE. I didn’t do challenges in 2013 as I just can’t keep up with more. Probably won’t in 2014 either. Still it is fun to see what other bloggers are doing. Have a great week!

  3. I enjoyed your review of Ladies’ Night. I found it a thoroughly good read. I must have a little revenge factor in me though! I was always wanting main character (brain fade as I forget her name) to take stronger revenge! Yikes.

  4. I’m in the Christmas mood now too, all this snow we’re getting doesn’t hurt (we’ve been dumped on this week, yikes). And it’s getting so close now too- luckily we got some shopping done. We’re getting ready , I think we’re going to make it. 🙂

    Have a good reading week!

  5. I’ve got Me Before You to read, I keep changing my mind on what’s going to be my first read of 2014 lol. Off to check out your post on caramel … yum!
Have a great week and happy reading and blogging 🙂

  6. I had a terrible blogging week. Then again, I had a terrible reading week, so… Hopefully as I get closer to being finished with all of the pre-Christmas stuff, I’ll find my groove again. Happy reading this week!

  7. I have Me Before You on my bookshelf and can’t wait to read it. I read The Girl You Left Behind and loved it and actually got to meet Jojo Moyes at a book talk – she was such a delight to listen to! Did you know they are making Me Before You into a movie? And Jojo Moyes was helping with the screenplay so it will be pretty true to the book.

Your caramels sound pretty good. I like to make fudge – it’s another fun and relatively easy homemade gift to make. Last year I made peppermint fudge and it was a huge hit. That’s my big project for tomorrow – we have snow in the forecast so I thought that would be a good day for it!

    Have a great week!

  8. A great bunch of titles to keep you busy. I have Me Before You on my bookshelf, but I want to give it a whole weekend and a new box of tissue, so I have been putting it off. So many great reviews through out the blogging world. Maybe that will be my First Book of the New Year read. Good idea!! ???

  9. Wow, when you recommit to blogging, you don’t go halfway! That’s a lot of posts for one week – good for you! I was just the opposite – so tied up with holiday stuff I didn’t have time for a single post! I hope to get back to writing reviews this week.

My end-of-year strategy keeps changing! Last week I came up with a brilliant idea to read short books from my TBR shelves for the rest of the year, to really plow through a bunch….then last week, I realized I don’t have time to write reviews of all of the books I am reading! So, I am into a BIG book now 🙂

    Enjoy your books this week!

    Book By Book

Book by Book is now on Facebook!

    1. Sue its like I had a break through and than goodness – I didn’t think I would ever get it back, especially when I see so many that try and then disappear 😦 I am behind on reviews as well… and I have been listening to audio so quickly lately that I just keep pushing further back 🙂

  10. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I agree that The Cuckoo’s Calling’s cover isn’t the most appealing, it doesn’t really give off a mystery feel. Overall I enjoyed the book, but definitely found it very slow for the first 300+ pages. It relies heavily on the investigator sitting and talking to everyone in “Cuckoo’s” life and it felt very repetitive. I would recommend it to those that like mystery novels, but unfortunately it wasn’t my cup of tea. 😦 The writing is amazingly descriptive though, as one would expect. 🙂

I’ve got ‘Me Before You’ on my Christmas list this year, so hopefully I’ll be able to read it in the next couple of months. Hope you are enjoying all your books and have a great week!

  11. I’ve got Red Hill on my TBR list. The others are new to me but they all sound exciting. I can’t wait to see what you think of Red Hill. I’ve been on the fence but I love her other books. Thanks for hosting. Happy holidays

  12. I’m in the minority on Me Before You. I didn’t enjoy it, didn’t care for the protagonist or Will.
I can’t wait to hear what you think!

    1. I am glad you asked! 🙂 A meme is something that is done weekly (or on a certain day, or once a month..) like this post here, Its Monday What Are You Reading. It offers others to join in and write their own posts. There are a lot of them out there – Sunday Salon, In My Mailbox, Teaser Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday, Freebie Fridays, Saturday Snapshot, Weekend Cooking (these last two I participate in), and many more than I probably even know about 🙂
They usually have a picture at the top of the post that you are encouraged to take and use on your posts as well. You as a participant are also asked to link back to the meme host.

Hmmmm... what do you think?
