Good Morning! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! I sure am. I had a great time yesterday with the kick off to banned books week, doing a little reading, and a lot of Twitter fun. I hope you are able to join in the big giveaway I am hosting… clues are being given out daily during banned book week and I am about to post another one! In my regular day to day so far not banned life, I had a wonderful dinner with hubby and my aunt and uncle last night. This was sweet as we never do this! We went out to eat and then came back to our house for coffee and chatting. In other random non banned things, College son cut his hand open at work last night and needed stitches. I will spare you all the picture he sent me on my phone. Uhhh…. GROSS. 😛 He was stitched up and back to work in no time and laughed at my desire to drive the three hours to Mankato to be with him 😀
And one more odd and interesting (and there may be a banning on this one)… I woke up this morning and had no less than seven (SEVEN!) young cats on my back deck…. in the tree, in the dog kennel, on the deck, on the grill. We dont own any cats. I think they were all wild. They were cute… cant ban them from the deck…
And this one is just for fun…. but…
Look at this beautiful 1984 version of Little Red Riding Hood. To me, it looks lovely, something I would love to have on my shelf….
BUT…
sharp eyed School Board Members in Culver City, California are quick to question what “Red” is carrying in her basket. Certainly the bread is understandable, and perhaps there is some sort of homemade jam in there as well – but as big as the wolves eyes…. Culver City School Board decided that the bottle of wine apparently in plain sight in the basket was not a good image to set before the youngsters. Raising the alert that this book should not be allowed in the school as it sends a mixed message about alcohol.
“Little Red Riding Hood… we are going to need you to slowly step away from the basket….”

LOL – the kitties were startled and ran like crazy to get away… the ones in the kennel were caught (it is attached to our back deck and has a little entry with steps down into it and that would be the way out as well. I went back in the house so they would stop panicking, but called my hubby who was at the office and told him about all the cats 😀
Wow, I can’t believe that about Red Riding Hood! I’m sure the wine is for Granny, though….LOL

Of course we want the book now! Banning a book makes us curious, even if it for some reason we wouldn’t have otherwise noticed.. Sheila, thanks for the link to the Banned Books blog. Somehow, I didn’t notice it when I first read this post.
I have meant to do it throughout the week Bonnie but this became bigger than I thought. I had a lot of late entrants into the Banned book event I am doing and that is super exciting, but also hard to keep track of as I had already made my spread sheet for the week. I hope to link you again – perhaps tomorrow if it will stay in my head. 😀

Nope… no birds… I quit filling the bird feeders (unfortunately) last year when I discovered that the strays were stalking the birds when they went to the ground to get the fallen seed and then captured. I felt like an accomplice to murder. 😯
Our neighbor lady feeds the strays so we have oodles around here I just rarely see them in the yard. 😀
Its nice here today in Brainerd too… a little bit of sunshine!

It was pretty much like the Ammityville Horror but instead of flies… it was cats…LOL
Actually they were pretty young so they still had the big eyes and they were just as shocked to see me… I tried to get pictures but they are pretty fast…. 😛
People will find a reason to be upset about anything! Imagine if they took all that energy and directed it towards some other causes, so much could be accomplished!
Exactly Jill… I sometimes wonder if I go around with my rose colored glasses on as I do not see things that others do…. or maybe it is more likely that I do not twist everything in to a horrible whatever…. 😀
I love this book cover actually, and have this book- it is done by one of my favorite book illustrators. Lol. Perhaps that bottle really is a bottle of Pellegrino? 😉
Wow, 7 black cats in your yard? How weird! As someone who is very involved in animal rescue, if you don’t mind them around, I would find an organization in your area that traps, neuters/spay, and re-releases them. They usually make sure they have all their shots as well. 🙂 If you need help, email me. 🙂
Not all black cats, they were assorted…. one was a pretty orange color. And on the deck! It was kind of unreal! 😀 The neighbor lady feeds them and I think the only organization that we have locally will pick them up and then keep them… I dont know of any that release…. I will check with wild and free in Garrison.
Sounds like my daughters house. She started with one cat and then that cat had kittens, and then more kittens and then they all had kittens…. and on and on.
I didn’t know cats could have kittens again so soon after just having some.
Luckily most have finally been given away and she only has 2 left.
I knew there were a few that hung around in the nearby woods… but I had no idea there were this many 😀
I just have to say it, “For crying out-loud”, would kids even notice that it looked like a bottle of wine? Okay, got that out of my system. So glad your son’s injury was taken care of! We have an organization that picks up wild cats, fixes them and then re-releases them in a safe place. So far it has been working out well.
Someone said that above too Nise about the cats… I had no idea but I am going to look into it… 😀 I wonder how they catch them?
Gosh! That bottle in Red Riding Hood’s basket could be non alcoholic apple cider. Shame on Grandma if she drinks anything else!

A Christian group is trying to stop it, for about every reason under the sun, mainly because theres a demon involved I think.
Thanks Mac – yes…. the fictional demon. 😯 I always say thank goodness my mind is not as weak as those who do banning think it is or I would be running to my car at night for fear of flying monkeys after reading The Wizard Of Oz. 😀
