It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

I love being a part of this and I hope you do too!  As part of this weekly meme I love to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme.  I offer a weekly contest for those who visit 10 or more of the Monday Meme participants and leave a comment telling me how many you visited.  **You do not have to have a blog to participate! Well another awesome week but really – not a lot of action here.  This is what I posted over the last week:

Small Town Sinners by Melissa Walker

Pictures from this weekend bike ride in Itasca State Park

Born Round by Frank Bruni (audio review)  **With giveaway!!!

Pretty pathetic week… I was reading, just not big chunks.  Of course now, I have three reviews to write and two more about finished.  That said – here is what I am treating myself to this week:  (Click on the cover to see descriptions)

*I have listened to this entire series by Patterson on audio and love these books – this story line of Michael Bennett (cop) and his 10 (yup 10!) adopted children …. seriously – check these audio out!

* It pained me to read a book with the word “winter” in its title this time of year…. but I heard good things about this and the audio was on sale at Amazon.

As for books….I am still (still still still…. ) catching up on books from the past couple of weeks so I am going to stick with that.  This week I am at a Camp for people with AIDS.  If you are curious about what in the world is Sheila doing at an AIDS camp…. check out the story here. I will be at camp from Monday morning through Friday morning.  I am taking along my IPOD with books on it, my NOOK, a book or two, and of course Laptop so I will be in communication all week and I will keep you updated.

Right now though I am so excited to see what you are reading!  Connect to this meme by adding your It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading? where it says click here.  Have an awesome week!!! :D

  1. I’m going to be reading Small Town Sinners this week. The Kristin Hannah book looks interesting. I’m not ready to think about winter yet either (though I’m sure my winter will be milder than Minnesota’s). I still want to read beach books and prolong summer :)

    Have a fantastic week!

  2. Congratulations to the winners!

I don’t think I could bring myself to read a book with “Winter” in the title. I’m not looking forward to it! I’m enjoying our warm (not too hot at the moment) weather too much. Enjoy your week!

  3. I’ve heard great things about Kristin Hannah, I have one of her books on my shelf! Hope you enjoy it :)

  4. Oh, I loved Winter Garden…hope you enjoy it, too!

  5. Looks like you have a busy week happening, Sheila!

Congrats to the winners as well!

I start school this week so a little nervous about getting reading done – but I’ll still be listening to my audio on the way to and from school, which will be good.

Left comments on 14 blogs tonight!

  6. Congrats to the winners!
I like your line up for this week – both good authors.
    Have a great week.

  7. The Hannah book interests me! I wouldn’t mind some winter here in my part of the world.

  8. I’m sure your week at the camp for people with aids will be inspiring.
Happy reading and catching up, I’ll be doing lots of that too. Hope you enjoy the Kristin Hannah book, I have that one waiting patiently on my bookshelf.

  9. I am so inspired by your week! Hopefully you will get some reading time in, if you do not, no worries, you are doing such a good thing this week.

  10. Wow, Tick Tock sounds interesting … imagine 10 adopted children :-)

    • The series is awesome – not as crude as some as his series – this one has a grandfather who is a priest and the cop and the kids – others in the series are Step On A Crack, Worst Case, and Run For Your Life – the audio is fantastic!

  11. I’m still thinking your experience this week is going to be simply incredible! I can’t wait to hear more about it! Hopefully you’ll get a little bit of reading in, but I’m sure if you don’t it will be entirely worth it. Have a fabulous week!

  12. A debut author for me today.

  13. I already have a couple of Christmas reads for this year, but not read them just yet. The nights are starting to draw in soon, so maybe then :)

Have a good week at camp

    carol

  14. I used to love winter, until I came down with arthritis. I now pretty much hate winter….and yet, there is still this lingering joy when I see the clouds and rain, or fog…feel the bite of cold…as long as there’s enough pain medicine on board! LOL

I only finished one book this week, and since we just went back to school this past week, I’m not beating myself up over it – not much anyway. I hope to finish at least two this coming week, but with my work schedule and my weekend schedule, I think it’s going back to one book a week for me. That’s okay, I get to play with grandkids on the weekend and they’re growing so fast, that I need to treasure this time with them, while they still enjoy their grandparents. :)

    • Mardel I dont like the cold – and I cant bike… stationary bikes are not the same :D

Good for you for getting out and having some fun! I am not beating myself up either…. I have been getting out and having fun. Yesterday we went motorcycle riding for 5 hours…. yeah I had plenty to do at home, but this was so much better :D

  15. I love the Michael Bennett series, too – maybe because I am one of seven so I can totally relate to all the chaos that goes on in that family. I also love most of the book series by JP.

I hadn’t read anything by Kristin Hannah in a while and recently finished Firefly Lane – great book. I am looking forward to hearing what you think about Winter Garden. I might have to do audio on that one, too.

  16. Patterson and Hannah are both authors I love. I enjoy the Michael Bennett series, too, although I’m behind on it.

  17. Hi Sheila! I’ve emailed you but yet to receive an email back.

So far I’ve commented 50 blogs!

  18. Thanks for stopping by my blog #BookthatThing!
The review for Epic Fail will be up later this week. I’ll sent you the link when it’s done.
Great blog! Trying to find GFC to follow? Might be blind…
    Best,
    _yay_

    • Sure! WordPress is weird that way – I don’t get the follow either… I think it runs along the top of this blog in the gray strip – otherwise I have email notification on the right side towards the top :)

  19. I haven’t read anything by Patterson! And all his books look really good! and Winter Garden seems like an amazing read! : )
    Enjoy your camp! : )

  20. A new Kristin Hannah book? Definitely going on my tbr list!!! Have a great week Sheila!!

  21. I like to read Christmas books in the summer sometimes just to mix things up a bit, but I do love summer. Yesterday my husband was complaining about the heat while we were walking around a local Renaisance Faire and, while I was hot, I was happy too. I love how you plan out what you are going to read, unless I have a review due or something for work that I have to read I kind of pick up whatever I feel like. And sometimes I put one thing down to grab something else halfway through just because. Have fun at camp!

  22. You have such a giving heart! I am so impressed with all you do. Have a great week.

  23. Congrats to the winners!

Hooray to you and Connie! Are you recording her story oral history style? Do you plan to make the recordings available or do you plan to transcribe her story? Just curious from an archivist perspective. :)

  24. Congratulations to the Winners!!! This will always be my favorite meme!!!!

Blogger has been acting up the past week and I really don’t want to switch to WordPress because I have my blog just the way I want it, but it takes longer to do posts right now because copying and pasting are a bear!!!

    HAPPY 101ST EDITION!!!

    • Ah you are so sweet Lori!

I have seen Blogger has been acting up on a few blogs today…. bummer. I know its a pain – but I would recommend wordpress. ;)

      • I think wordpress is too complication for my pea brain to figure out, lol.

Made it to 30 blogs plus your today and now the dryer repairman is up his way up the driveway. He’d better have the right parts this week or he is going to see my not so nice side!!!!

  25. Reading ‘Year of Wonders, a novel of the Plague’, by Geraldine Brooks. I never would have picked up such a book, but a friend recommended it. It’s captivating, and not bleak. Beautiful prose. Also reading ‘Prayer’ by Ernest Holmes, and ‘Telling Yourself the Truth’, by William Backus.

Thanks for stopping by my site, so that I found yours!

  26. Have a great week serving at camp! I love the Michael Bennett series as well. I have not listened to one, maybe the next one.

  27. I won! Thanks! Back later to choose my prize. Hope you have a terrific week — it certainly sounds like a rewarding experience.

  28. I’m shocked to see only two books on your post! :-) I’ve missed this meme while I’ve been away. Happy reading and have a great week!

  29. I am really excited about what I just read and I want to share it with everyone! hallililburn.blogspot.com

  30. Thanks for this meme – As a newish book blogger, I am excited to find some other book bloggers and hopefully have them find me!

  31. I forgot to mention I visited 10 blogs so far…more later, I hope. :)

  32. Sounds like your busy summer continues!

I haven’t read Winter Garden but I loved Kristin Hannah’s Firefly Lane. Hope you enjoy it!

Have a good week and enjoy your books –

    Sue

  33. As hot as it has been, I would think a book with the word winter in it would be nice.

  34. Thank you for your work at the camp!

  35. It sounds like you’re doing great work with your AIDS camp. I hope you manage some reading this week, but also thank you for all of your work at the camp.

  36. Sounds like you have a busy week. The best book I read last week was Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder. Please come see what I finished and what’s up next.

  37. I’m new i found your meme on Julie’s blog http://bookretreat.blogspot.com/
So far i’ve visited and commented on 10 sites from the linky, so many people i’m finding and so many books i’m adding to my reading lists.

  38. haha, i’m not really ready for a ‘winter’ read either. enjoy your books!

  39. I made 10+ comments today!

  40. Ugh Winter?! I’m ready for some autumn… but I winter is a stretch :) Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of Winter Garden. I read it earlier this year, but I hope you enjoy it more than I did. We all have different tastes; that’s what keeps life fun :)

  41. Tick Tock was one of my book club’s reads that I ended up missing because of vacation :(

  42. Great review! You have a fabulous blog! I’m an author and illustrator and I made some awards to give to fellow bloggers whose sites I enjoy. It’s not a pass on award. This is just for you to keep. I want to award you with the Best Books Blog Award for all the hard work you do! Thank you so much for taking the time to read and review all these books for us authors and readers.

Go to http://astorybookworld.blogspot.com/p/awards.html and pick up your award.

  44. I am not surprised you’re away visiting a camp for people with AIDS. You’re always involved in good causes. Have a good week. Congratulations to the winners……

  45. Whoops, can’t add my link to Mr. Linky. It’s closed. I’ll just visit some blogs. It’s alright.
