It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
I love being a part of this and I hope you do too! As part of this weekly meme I love to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme. I offer a weekly contest for those who visit 10 or more of the Monday Meme participants and leave a comment. You receive one entry for every 10 comments, just come back here and tell me how many in the comment area.
Last weeks winner (using Random.Org) was:
Heather at Based On A True Story
Congratulations! Please choose an item out of the PRIZE BOX and email me your choice with your mailing address as well! journeythroughbooks@gmail.com
** And on a special note I totally overhauled the Prize Box earlier today and it is filled with new book choices! So many in fact that I think for this next week we will have two winners!!! Why do I do this?
- I think to get the full “community” of this meme, its important to go out and visit a few blogs that are new to you…. you may just find one that you love – and you will definitely hear about books that are new to you. 😀
- I always have books that I have read and reviewed that I do not wish to keep. I like passing them on so they may be enjoyed by others.
- For every 10 blogs you stop in and leave a comment on and tell me here in the comment section, I enter you for a chance to choose a book.
So how we all doing now as we come to the end of August? I find it pretty bitter sweet as I know my days of summer are flying by and fall is in the air. While I love summer for the bike rides, the reading on the deck, trips to the cabin…. I appreciate fall because life starts to slow down and I tend to read more as I have more time to read.
Here is what I had happening here this past week:
The Postcard Killers by James Patterson (audio giveaway – woo hoo!!!!!!)
Summer At Tiffany by Marjorie Hart review (this is the Wordshaker online book club review!)
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins review (with a link to a spoiler page so if you have read you can stop in and hash out your thoughts with other Mockingjay addicts….:D )
Author Chat with Marjorie Hart – author of Summer at Tiffany (this 86 year old spitfire has caught my heart!)
Summer At Tiffany – Hard cover SIGNED copy of this book giveaway (ummmm….. SSSQQQUUUEEEE!)
Where Is God In Your Life by Susan Provost (A book divided into three sections for retreat ideas)
eat the Cookies, buy the Shoes by Joyce Meyer (A review of the book and the audio)
That’s my week! I actually read a few more books this week but have not had time to post their reviews yet:
PREP
To Kill A Mockingbird
I Am Nujood Age 10 and Divorced
And – I am really excited about this week! Here is what I am planning:
I will be announcing at some point this week what the next read for the Wordshaker Online Book Club will be. I am waiting on one little detail….. it’s a secret…. 😉
I am starting this one for my Bookies Book Club. This is our September read and I am so excited to finally get a chance to get into this book 😀
Woo Hoo! Just in from my library reserve is this little gem that I can not wait to dive into! Doesn’t it look awesome? Doesn’t it? Huh? Huh? 😀
Off the TBR Mountain(s), comes this mystery that the cooler evenings call me to. I also have two of these. Hmmmm….. what to do with the second one… what to do……. I think we will be having a giveaway!
Here is the audio I will be starting in my car this week. Fresh from Hachette I am excited to start listening to this one. I have a cabin road trip this weekend, and I may actually head up a day early to get things ready as will have guests this time. Going early means going alone and going alone means – AUDIO!!! 😀
And this is a treat for my IPOD that I picked up off of Audible.com this week. I am mere moments away from starting this one and – well, I know right? It’s just calling to me!
Oh yes, my long anticipated author chat with Sarah Ockler, author of Twenty Boy Summer…. oh and yes, we are going to talk about her new book too!
So this looks like a big week for me and I obviously will not finish the audio this week, or for that matter the book club read either as I have until the second Tuesday of September to get that one done…. but it will be a fun start anyway.
I am so ready to hang out with all of you now and see what you can add to my TBR list are reading!!! 😀
Please add your post link to the spot below where it says “Click Here” so I and other happy “What Are You Reading memers” can pop in and say hi! 😀 I hope you meet some of our newer participants this week as well as our regulars – you are all such a fun group!

SQUEEE on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. This had to be one of my favorite books so far this year. I just asked for the DVD of the Swedish Movie from Netflix. I can’t wait to get it. I had a great reading week this week because I was on Vacay. I am still mulling through the passage. Still not sure how I like it. It changes so much, lol. I am finding myself very attached to Amy and I am anxious to see what happens to her. Have a fabby week Sheila. I will be e-mailing you soon about doing a guest post on my blog while I am gone:)
Oh good Bobbie! I am so looking forward to this book! It took me awhile to get into The Passage but once I started to get into it – i would say it ended as probably one of the best things I have read this year. Seriously. Amy is what kept me going too. 🙂
You are one prolific reader and blogger! I am impressed. I am excited to hear what you have to say about Mockingjay, but I’m not reading any reviews — even spoiler-free ones – ’til I have a chance to read it for myself.
I get that – I avoided all reviews and twitter and everythign until I was done with the book too – I did not want to accidently see something about the book. 😀
So many great books on deck (a few I have read) and fun things happening this week 😀
It is a good week Staci! I am kind of excited and for once I dont feel like I am running behind, I have several of the posts already written. 😀
I got a lot of reading done but this week I have to hit the text books. Here’s what I’m reading this week.
Oh good Pussreboots! I love good reading weeks!
Awesome line-up of books Sheila. I have the 3 Stieg Larsson books waiting patiently for me … must get to them soon!!
Thanks Sherri, those books were on my reading plan for this summer and I just never got to them. Leave it to my book club to get me moving 😀
I want to read the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. My sister just bought all 3 books so hopefully when she finishes them she will let me borrow them too. Indivisible and Left to Tell both sound really good. I’ve read other books by Kristen Heitzmann that I liked.
I look forward to your interview with Sarah Ockler. I thought Twenty Boy Summer was fantastic. Have a great week!
Christina, I thing the Girl With The Tattoo books are going to be good! I loved Twenty Boy Summer too and had so much fun meeting Sarah in New York this past May that I am really excited about this interview. 😀
Brilliant line-up! The only two I have not read is Left To Tell and Lippman’s newest novel, which I am anxiously awaiting. Happy reading.
Thanks Jennifer! I am excited about the line up too 😀
Stieg Larsson’s books are on my wish list. Hope it won’t be a long wait until I can read them myself.
Kah, I have waited to long on these – I am glad to finally get started and hope you are able to soon as well.
I have been wanting to read the Larsson books for quite a while now, but just haven’t found the time. I have decided to schedule nothing else for Christmas other than those books (like that will happen (lol)), but I can wish right?
Enjoy your great reading week!!!!
LOL Stephanie – they were my summer reading plan and that didnt happen….. I hope you get them read soon! 😀
Have a super week!
Good luck on Dragon Tattoo-I think they’re really good but they are also long!
As fall starts coming this way I am mellower and able to read longer reads Bookworm…. otherwise Summer time I have to keep them short as my attention span is all over the place 😀
TGWTDT was a bit slow starting for me, but it picked up and I ended up really enjoying it, so I hope you do too! 🙂
I heard that Kelly – about the slow start and seen that in a few reviews too. My friends book club just read the book and she said it too – slow start but once it goes – it goes fast! 😀
Am sure you will enjoy The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Those audiobooks look great too. Audiobooks do make a car trip alone quite desirable don’t they – enjoy!
Love audios and I almost caved and got TGWADT on audio – but thought I would want the books as I have heard such good things about them.
I just finished reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo today and I really enjoyed it. I hadn’t planned on reading it in two days, but as what often happens with mysteries, I just had to see what would happen.
Oh good Nicole – I am hoping I dive right into it too 😀
Wow, lots of interesting books. Hope you enjoy them.
Coming late to the party here, as I was just out to dinner with my son and daughter-in-law to celebrate their birthdays…yes, they have birthdays a week apart.
Have a great week!
Naw your not late Laurel -its still Sunday – we are all early 😀
Left to Tell is an AMAZING BOOK! It still resonates with me a year later…I hope you are as amazed as I was.
I am excited to read it Melissa – I read the review I think it was on Nicoles blog and it was a wow for me!
I am feeding my summer “Junk Food Book” hunger. When time is short, crazy and I don’t want anything too deep, I hit my stack of Harlequins. I like the Intrigues , the Inspirational line and some of the Super Romances. There are some good authors writing for them. I had a Debra Webb fest this past week and read a bunch of her Colby series. I am also still working on ISADOR’S SECRET. That is my serious book, and I didn’t feel very serious last week.
Pat would you believe I have never read a Harlequin. Never have been a romance fan. 😀
Romance books aren’t for everyone. There are some descent authors that write good stories that aren’t totally focused on the romance. The Intrigues are suspense, the Super Romances are longer books and spend more time developing plot and characters, the Inspirational line are obviously not racy. The other of their lines tend to be focused too much on the romance and sex rather than the story.
They are quick reads and good little mysteries. It is a bit like getting a lollypop when you’d really like Godiva chocolates but you don’t have the time and money for them.
LOL Pat! Love your comment here , especially the chocolate reference 😀
librarypat, you are my new best friend. I call my serious books Brain Books 🙂 And Harlequins keep my sanity 🙂
Ok Andrea – you crack me up too! This is awesome! 😆
You have more time to read in the fall? Hmmm – I don’t think the seasons change my overloaded schedule. 🙂
The Island was interesting and I think you will enjoy it. I’m working on the review for that this week.
You have some good sounding books coming up.
I read Hunger Games and have the other two lined up! Great so far!
Have a great week!
I’m not a cold weather girl Martha so once the weather turns cool I don’t leave the house unless it is for errands or work. In the summer you cant keep me in the house – I love the sun and I love to be outside… but once Minnesota turns cold I hibernate…. with books. 🙂
I loved Left to Tell. It’s an amazing story. I want to get my hands on I’d Know You Anywhere. Looks creepy.
It does look creepy doesnt it Nancy T? I cant wait to listen to it…. I hope the narrator is incredible.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a good read I read it as part of the EW Summer Challenge that I finished this week when I finished Mockingjay. You have some great titles for this week. I will be interested to see what you think of Left to Tell, that looks like a book that would have me in tears. Have a great week.
Jan I am expecting Left To Tell to know the stuffing (or tears) out of me. I have a couple to finish up before it but can not wait 😀
I’m looking forward to read TGWTDT and the rest of the book in the series. Hope you will enjoy them too =)
Have a great week Sheila!
Thanks Darlyn, you enjoy your week too!
I love this meme – have visited more than 10 other blogs, most of whom I hadn’t seen before, so thank you 🙂
I haven’t read any of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, but hoping to get to it soon. Have a good week x
Kate I am so glad you found new blogs to enjoy! I love blog exploring! 😀
I’m up…I’m ordering the Hunger games series today…can’t take it anymore…mind you I still need to read the last two books in the Twilight Saga.
WHA????? You have finished the Twilight series? Well…. that has to wait now… Hunger Games is truly the flavor of the month. 😀
Go Girl!!!
This is what I’m reading this Monday 🙂
http://desertrosebooklogue.blogspot.com/2010/08/its-monday-what-are-you-reading.html
Thanks for joining in Desert Rose!
Thanks for visiting my Monday Mailbox.
Have a wonderful week.
Sure abi! 😀 You too!
ahh, Mockingjay – I can’t wait to dig into this one too 🙂 Steig Larsson’s series is supposed to be amazing, I need to get time to read that one too, LOL.
Have a great week!
I know Mel -right? SO many books I want to read!!! 😀
Have a super week!
Sounds like you had an awesome week. Have a great trip to the cabin!
Thanks Rebecca – I am pretty excited about the weekend. Hanging with friends good food and good fun. This will be a nice break before I get into the business of September.
I enjoyed listening to The Island – great vacation read.
Oh good Mary! I am excited to get started on it – maybe tonight while I am cooking dinner.
I feel the same way about the end of August – summer was fun, but I’m ready for the a quiet house and my normal routine to return! My youngest went back to school today, and my oldest heads back tomorrow.
So glad you’re finally starting Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!! My husband finished book 2 this weekend and immediately picked up book 3!
Your books for this week sound good – I’ve been hearing good things about The Island, and I enjoyed another Laura Lippman book. Enjoy!
Sue
Sue oh good – I want to read more of Laura Lippmann, what I have read so far has been so good!
I wish my hubby read…. 😀
Ooh, looks like a fun week ahead! Several of those books are ones I’ve wanted to read but just haven’t yet.
I am excited about the books this week Hannah, I am trying to keep a good mix of the review books and the library and my personal “I want to read!” books. 😀
OH – and I am so excited about the confirmation I just received for Wordshakers but…. that has to wait for another post. 😉
You’re such a tease! 😛
😆
Great line up for you! Indivisible was great. Loved Dragon Tattoo. Just watched the movie and was impressed with how close to the book they stayed.
Nise I remember your review on Indivisible and have been excited about it ever since.
I also love reading books and then following up with the movie! I will be doing that with To Kill A Mockingbird…. cant wait 😀
Good luck with Girl with a Dragon tattoo. I hope to get through it during the months of November and December for my book club. I’ve been looking forward to it!
Oh good Michelle – your book club is reading it too! 😀 That is so fun!
Great book choices for the week. Loved the Stieg Larsson series. One of my favorite for the year. Tempted to peak at the Mockingjay review, but I’m trying to avoid anything with that title. I just got Catching Fire from the library and Mockingjay arrived at my door on Friday, so I just need to find a place to read them. 🙂
Sherri my review is spoiler free – I was very careful about that – I have a link that goes to a spoiler page.
Enjoy both books!
It took me exactly 73 pages to really get into Dragon Tattoo. After that I finally “got” what the hype was about. Isn’t that funny that I remember the number?
For some reason, though, I haven’t read the other two! Just so many other books to read!
Lynne that is funny because I have been told you have to give the book about 70 pages and I told that to my friend who is reading it right now for her book club. 😀
Now I am super excited about page 73!!!
You are like Wonder Woman – I don’t know how you fit so much into each day. You must not sleep much!
Kathy I just like to stay busy 😀
(ooh but I do like sleep too!)
I’m going to have to check back to see what word shaker is about I hope you enjoy the week!
I will either post Wordshaker on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week Heidi – I am so excited about it!
I’ve been wanting to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but my TBR is just so massive I haven’t picked it up.
I also want to read Twenty Boy Summer BAD! Your so lucky to get to chat with Sarah Ockler!!!! Woo hoo!
Candace, You must read twenty Boy Summer- you must 😀
The Island was great! Was a little conflicted on The Postcard Killers, but the new Patterson Don’t Blink was fantastic!!!
Enjoy the last days of summer!!
Dollycas
Good to know Dollycas…. I haven’t started it yet. I dont have Cont Blink yet but of course I want it 😀
Wendy Jones just pointed me to your blog. Wow! Great job. I particularly liked how you set up a written review policy. I’ve just begun getting review requests so that was really helpful to read.
Hi Kathy – Wendy’s so great! Email me if you have any questions – I would be happy to help. 😀
I hope that you enjoy The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, such a tremendous series, as well as The Island this week. The Island was the Manic Mommies Book Club selection for last month, which I am a part of, and I truly LOVED this book! It may be worth noting that some of the other members did not enjoy the audio version and actually went back and read the book, with a much more positive result. The only reason that I am mentioning this is that it is such a good story, and worth the read, even if the audio doesn’t do it for you, don’t give up on this story! I wish you much success in your busy week ahead!! I am hunkering down with Room by Emma Donoghue and Blink: The Power of Thinking WIthout Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell. They are both book club books that I am super excited to dive into! Have a fantastic week!!!
Ooh thanks Sarah for your thoughts on The Island. I am anxious to get going on it and thanks for the warning about the audio. When I select audio for myself I really watch the reviews for comments on the narrator, this one came from Hachette for review so I have no idea going in what this will be like.
I cant wait to read ROOM – I have it – just havent got to it – yet. 😀
35 today, should hit 40 next week!! 🙂
Nice job Dollycas – I hope oyu are taking breaks and drinking lots of water! 😀
I still need to read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Now that a co-worker has offered to lend it to me I feel I have less of a reason not to read it.
FYI – Pinky-swearing that I will read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society in September!
LOL alitareads – I pinky swear I will read it too then! 😀
It’s been a long time since I last participated. Glad to be back. I love Lee’s book. I saw the movie, “The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo.” I want to read the book. I hope the American version turns out decent. Thanks for hosting. Off to read at least 10 blogs.
Welcome back Susan! I really want to see the movie The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo after I read the book. 😀
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is my book club pick for October, mabye i should take that one to my cabin with me this weekend!
Great idea Debbie – mine is going there too – AND take a picture of you reading it at the cabin for your post…. thats just fun stuff. 😀
Commented to 10, read more. Hope to check out more later.
YAY Susan – its just like riding a bicycle isn’t it? 😀
Ah, yay yay…..so many books, so little time to read! We need to start a business where we just read books! My best friend read all of the Elin Hilderbrand books this summer. She said they were all great, especially Blue Bistro. I need to order the Hunger series.
I like it Jill – if I could figure out a way I could do it for a living I would – LOL 😀
And yes – get moving on the Hunger Series – and if you look at my review of Mockingjay there is a link there and I think a few people linked giveaways there…. maybe you could win the series! 😀
Thanks for stopping by! Glad to see you enjoyed Mockingjay…I still can’t quite believe the series is over!!
I know Danya – that saddens me!
Have a great week in reading and in everything else you do.
Thank you Ryan enjoy your week too 🙂
Just finished commenting to 10. Have seen great books, definitely added book on my wishlist. 🙂 I love the fact that this is my first time participating and I enjoy it a lot. Here is my list for this week.
Oh I am glad too greyz! 😀
I’m curious to see what you think of the Dragon Tattoo book! I got totally sucked in by the characters.
And I’m planning on trying Laura Lippman pretty soon. I’ve heard good things about her books.
I am hoping so Jenners! I really am excited to read it. Did you read all three then?
A lot of the books on your list have been flying out of the library. Thanks for the reviews! 🙂
Thank you Sami – hoe you enjoy whatever ones you choose to read!
Immaculee Ilibagiza has spoken in our area a few times. I haven’t read anything by her yet, but everyone comes in the Bookstore ask for her books and buy them in multiples. They must be amazing.
That comment here makes me want to tear into the book right now amcatoir! 😀
