It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had a busy busy week. Once every 4 months I am part of a group that houses the homeless for a week. We stay in the downstairs of a local church and use the Sunday school rooms as bedrooms. We provide meals and a place to sleep for 7 days. This past week was our week and while I have many volunteers that take a ton of the work load off of me…. it is still mentally and physically exhausting – so reading time this week was not as productive as I had hoped.
Here is what I managed to complete:
Symptoms of a bookaholic….
The Boneman’s Daughter by Ted Dekker (Dekker is a suspenseful author who required attention)
Eyes Of Darkness by Dean Koontz (an old favorite author but not the best he has delivered)
Vampires, Werewolves, Sea Monsters, and Me (thoughts on paranormal in the classics)
I caught a break on Friday morning and went biking with my friends
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver (this book surprised me!)
Ok, looking at that…. my week doesn’t sound so unproductive in my book world. 🙂 Bottom line, I did not get through the books I had hoped to so bringing back for a “take two”:
Duff – waiting for me on my kitchen table….
Choices, I am just starting this one.
The Michael Sullivan Series is going to be completed this week. Seriously – I have taken way too long on this….
It is also Audio Book week and I am a big supported so I will be filling in audio wherever and whenever I can 🙂

amcatoir, I don’t have a favorite narrator – I am still an audio rooky – about a year under my belt…. I am open to suggestions. 🙂
Have you heard Sean Mangan narrate Matthew Reilly’s books? Or Stephen Fry read the Harry Potter series? They are awesome awesome awesome to listen to

I just finished “A Bad Day for Pretty” by Sophie Littlefield and reviewed it at The Blood-Red Pencil blog. I read everything, but love mysteries and thrillers the most.
I read all over the board too Patricia – I just have a few genres I avoid – otherwise, bring on the books ;D
I just finished a book, “Quaker Summer” which made me think of you and the way that you offer your time to help others. This book touched me on many levels and I’m in awe of all that you give and still find time for yourself too, which is very important.

I loved your review of Before I Fall and your post about classic mashups.
The Duff is on my TBR list so I look forward to hearing what you think of it. The cover of Choices reminds me a lot of the cover from After by Amy Efaw. Both involve teen pregnancy and have images of a female character leaning against the wall.

Wow you read a lot this week. I am averaging reading one book every two weeks but I do have a 24 hour roadtrip this week so I will get caught up. That said, I do listen to about a book a week.

I am reading ‘White Night’ by Jim Butcher and am enjoying it in a way.
Today my first set of results came in and I have aced it with a 41/50 in the English Exam and a distinction in the rest.(that is an A+ thing……yahooooooooooooo)

Just read your Symptoms (of book addict) post – so apt. I think it ties in neatly to B.A.D.D. We might have a lot of Multiple book disease symdrome! Addiction, B.A.D.D., There has to be more book related syndromes out there!

As I was reading your post today, (I’m new here) I was wondering how does she get so many books read in a week, AND THEN, I noticed the smily face that asked the same question, so of course I went and read why you can read so many books in a week. I feel great if I get two read in a week. It was fun reading and viewing your blog.
This week I am reading “Sing” by Lisa T. Bergren, and hopefully I will be able to read some of Sarah Strohmeyer’s book “The Penny Pinchers Club.” Reading is also my favorite pastime.

Your program for the homeless sounds wonderful – exhausting, yes, but also wonderful – I’ve read about similar programs. I’m always inspired by your volunteering. My illness limits what I can do, so I like to live vicariously through you!

Sue it is wonderful and carries a 92% success rate that once the people in the program are back on their feet that they are able to maintain housing and not fall back into being homeless. I have always had a passion for helping others Sue so this just feeds that passion. 🙂

Sheila, Neil Gaiman is the author of adult and YA fiction, American Gods is one adult chunkster I have on my bookshelf but the YA I’ve got on audio … The Graveyard Book (loved it) & Coraline (did you see the movie?) and they are two that he narrates himself.

Guess I’ll have to pick up Before I Fall. I love surprises! I’m reading Driftwood Summer, but only read two pages last night and was out like a light. I am one of those rare people who falls asleep when reading in bed even if the book is really good. 🙂

I didn’t know Dean Koontz had a new book out — I’ll have to put it on hold at my library. And Dekker is a new one for me — thanks for much for shining a light on someone I think I should know! My book for the week involves spiritual self-help. It’s “Streetwise Spirituality” by Carol Marleigh Kline and it’s a guide to dealing with all kinds of things: difficult relationships, feelings and other personal and professional disasters. Life not giving you what you want, despite such things as a great job, cute body, great smile, even though “society” thinks that’s all there is to it? It gives you true stories (I love those, as they really help me to relate) to help illustrate larger truths, and it asks you to use your hard times to create better ones, not just rise above it all. I’m a perfectionist, as well, and this book is helping explain to me why perfectionists, and “pleasers” experience so much pain in life. Good read!
Liz that does sound good. I do not normally go for any self help books, however this one has a different sound to it.
Very different feel. Give it a look sometime when you’re at the bookstore — see if the approach works for you!

I started THE FORBIDDEN ROSE by Joanna Bourne. Picked it up and read only 2 pages and decided that was to be my next read. However, A DUKE OF HER OWN by Eloisa James was on the table near the sofa when I sat down to eat breakfast, and that is what I got into. I don’t think I have read any of her books before. I like her characters, not cookie cutter types, and am enjoying it. I know many don’t like romance, but there are some good authors out there who write good stories with suspense, well developed plots and well drawn characters. I prefer historicals that have been well researched and are accurate.
I am currently listening to THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett. It is excellent.
