What a fun week!  I had a library Friends board meeting, a fund raiser for the Library that raised $850.00, College son came to town and we had lunch and went rollerblading, a board meeting for Camp, and the BIG Survivor Finale tonight so a pretty good week!    As far as the blog, well this is what happened here:

The Maze Runner by James Dashner (oooh its about time I read this one!)

 

 

It was a pretty good week… I actually posted, that was fun .  AND I am actually reading and moving forward on audio which feels like it has been a long time coming.  So here is what I am reading/listening to:

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak– that we owe many of the great contributions to society. 

In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts–from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.

This is so me… I started this one a while ago and I am getting back to it now.  It really in interesting and accurate.

 

 

 

American life can be excessive, to say the least. That’s what Jen Hatmaker had to admit after taking in hurricane victims who commented on the extravagance of her family’s upper middle class home. She once considered herself unmotivated by the lure of prosperity, but upon being called “rich” by an undeniably poor child, evidence to the contrary mounted, and a social experiment turned spiritual was born.

7 is the true story of how Jen (along with her husband and her children to varying degrees) took seven months, identified seven areas of excess, and made seven simple choices to fight back against the modern-day diseases of greed, materialism, and overindulgence.

Food. Clothes. Spending. Media. Possessions. Waste. Stress. They would spend thirty days on each topic, boiling it down to the number seven. I have been fascinated about this book since I heard or if… now its time to read it!

I am super pumped!  I just came off a HIGHLY productive weekend and that always makes me feel good.  Saturday I tackled College Sons bedroom packing up all the papers and posters and goodies he left when he went to college 4 years ago and then proceeded to redo the room with its own full makeover, painting, etc…. in with that I mixed in serving at church from 3:30 – 6:30 on Saturday and 9 – 11 on Sunday, a benefit Saturday evening followed by a concert, and today I spoke this afternoon to a group of people about the camp I work with, grocery shopped, shampooed the downstairs carpet…. and listened to audio

 

So what actually was posted this week?

BEA:  Book Blogger Connection form.  With a little prodding (and poking!) a few book bloggers encouraged me tos et up a BEA connections form for those of us going tp the book expo at the end of this month.  This form is so those going can know who else if going and maybe plan a dinner together one night as a group.  Everyone who signs up will get a copy of the connections spreadsheet.  If you, or some book blogger you know is going to go to BEA please direct them to this form.

 

Requiem by Laurel Oliver (Its not often that the third book in a trilogy trumps the first two… but I think it just happened!)

 

The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater (wow.  Maggie does it again but in a whole different way)

 

I did ok this week and I have been cruising on the audio I have going now believing I will finish all three this week and start new ones, as well as the book I am reading.  The plan for this week is:

AFTER FOUR HARROWING YEARS ON THE WESTERN Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

I have been listening to this one this weekend and holy smokes it is good!

I have been fairly absent this week.  I have an uncle who has been very sick with cancer for over the past year.  It has been a long battle for him and I spent time with him and my aunt this past Wednesday when I heard that things were not looking good.  I am so glad I did as he passed away on Thursday evening.  On Thursday, I was working 13 hours on the Camp Benedict benefit dinner which happened to be in the middle of a snow storm and we still had a wonderful turn out!  On Friday morning I had two meetings, and then my friend Amy picked me up and I went with 8 of my girl friends to Breezy Point Minnesota for a fun relaxing girls weekend.  The break was needed, and as you can imagine, this week will be busy again.

With all that going on my reading was non-existent but I did get a little audio time in.

And wow… that was it.  That was all I posted.    This week I am pretty much continuing what I already has going but this is my current audio listening…

This week I am hoping to get some good reading in.  I am finally finishing up the three audio books I feel like I have been listening to FOREVER!  So… I will be able to move on to some new things:

For those of you who do Easter – Happy Easter!  I had a wonderful day of church and then spending the day with my hubby, enjoying good food and a good movie.  Lets just say… I need to get back to the gym tomorrow.

I completed my first 7K for the year (pics of all the people!!!)

 

 

Not too bad a week.  I am in the middle of three audio books that I feel like I have been listening to FOREVER.  I am going to need a shorter audio when I finish these for a break  

Here is what is on the reading agenda this week:

Oh sweet Martha’s cookies!  I am so enjoying this one.  I love Sarah’s writing and I am reading this one every chance I get!

I read this one a few years back but now I am reading it for book club… I am excited to freshen up this review.

What a week!  I spent much of last weekend and the first part of the week sick, then went right into the three day Friends Of The Library book sale which was a lot of fun but a lot of work too.  Today has been my first kick back and relax day in over a week and I took full advantage… put books away in the book room, listened to audio, read a bit, and yes.. I had a nap.

I haven’t accomplished much for this past week and seem to be deep into the audio books I have going so lets see.. what is next:

Well I was pretty much absent this week.  I wasn’t planning on being absent but working hard and playing hard usually means something has to give and unfortunately this past week it was this space here.  Bookclub was last Tuesday, Wednesday I was working out with friends, Thursday was wine and horduerves with my cousins, and I was gone over the weekend doing a 7k In the cities and I took my laptop with me but had little time to be on it.  Hope fully this upcoming week will be a better turn out.  Here is what I did manage to post this week:
