Can you share your google map of 2011 with me?? Im trying to set up my own for this year.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=216254007243021660638.000498cefa0b63b848a15&msa=0&ll=26.431228,144.84375&spn=134.828343,346.289063
I set up my map. This is a little tricky for me, it’s stretching my techie skills. Not quite sure yet how to do the book covers…
This will be a fun challenge
Cheri I am no techie and it took me awhile to get too but once you have it – you have it..
It is a ton of fun
I just have a question about what qualifies a book to be for a certain state? I noticed that you have Cook yourself thin for New York. Is that because of the author? Some books I have I am not sure how they will fit in.
That is a great question! If I am reading a book with recipes, or a work out book (books that have no state/ country – unless of course they do… ie…. Texas Cookbook) I go with where the author is from.
If it is a memoir or biography, I go with where the author/ person spent the most time in the book or where they were born.
Some books are hard to figure out – I usually have a few that I truly have no idea where they were suppose to be… I have even emailed authors to ask them
Dystopian books like Hunger Games, you can sometimes figure out… for instance, District 12 in the book is Pennsylvania.
Hi, Sheila –
A bit late (as usual), but I finally decided on a few challenges for this year, including two of yours! Here is my post:
http://bookbybook.blogspot.com/2012/01/2012-reading-challenges.html
Are you keeping up the map this year again as well or just this list?
Sue
Hi Sue! I am keeping up the post and the map (LOVE the map!) I love to see where my little peg will go
I hate to tell you this, but you are missing 3 states from your list! Where’s Indiana, Iowa and Kansas? You’ve got some more readin’ to do! Hee!
Ah – seriously? That is hilarious! I copied the states from something on line so I did not have to think about it
Fixing it now – and I am so glad you told me.
I only noticed it because I just happened to be singing that “Nifty Fifty” song in my head that they made us learn in school in order to memorize the States in alphabetical order! I guess it worked because I still know them all!
So funny! Appreciate you noticing and telling me
or did i get it wrong – that you want to know where i am? where i am actually doing the reading?…
The list above is where I am doing the reading – the idea here is that you build your own on your own blog
I have a link above to get you started!
feel free to delete my post – i’ve word doc’d it so i can add to my own map creation [+ it doesn't benefit here by being up
!] thanks, Sheila..
ok, got the link and am working on that
so is the long list at the top with states another way of recording your books read?
[sorry - thought those were readers contributing their locations to fill in the blanks!]
i know it sounds silly to anyone reading who already knows what to do ! sorry…
i obviously like the idea w/ the # of places i’ve already visited … wanting to get it set up right off the top for me TY!
Yes, the long list is my way of connecting my reviews to the states as well as using the map – which I think is fun. My list is outdated, I am about two months behind on updating… I hope to get caught up through this coming weekend
Here is an entry from Indiana…
I enjoyed Jeanne Ray’s Calling Invisible Women and Eat Cake. Calling Invisible Women made me take a look at myself. How have I changed personally? How have I changed professionally? Do I still have the same beliefs about education that I had when I started? I am such a people-pleaser. Am I still me because of that or have I conformed to what everyone expects? Eat Cake was a great follow-up read for me about a woman and family starting over. I’m going through some career changes as well. In the story, the family pulled together to find peace and prosperity. Likewise, my family has made adjustments, and we are stronger because of it.
Am trying to do it as well. Although I haven’t finished my A-Z challenge.
I did it!! 2012 Where Are You Reading Challenge Complete!! Chair Dancing!!!
