It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
I love being a part of this and I hope you do too! As part of this weekly meme I love to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme. I offer a weekly contest for those who visit 10 or more of the Monday Meme participants and leave a comment. You receive one entry for every 10 comments, just come back here and tell me how many in the comment area.

The two big end of the year holidays are over and my reading has been sporadic as of late. It seems like I am either reading for hours at a time, or not picking up a book for days. Here is what this past week looked like:
The WHERE Are You Reading Challenge
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Best of 2010
Fallen by Lauren Kate
The 2010 Challenge Recap post
Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks (not your average Sparks at all!)
This week is a busy one. I have a meeting every night Mon – Thurs and that puts a crimp in the reading time. That said, I do still have goals:
Yes Torment was on last weeks list and here it is hopefully being read later this week.
The Kitchen Boy is a random pick up off my book shelves and I am sitting about a fourth of the way in this one now.
Our Bookies Book Club read for January due next Tuesday so this one hits the front line this week.
That’s my plan for this first week of the new year. I am hoping to read more intentionally this year. I cant wait to see what books you are reading to start off this new year. Link up your What Are You Reading post below! 😀

Looks like you had a busy holiday! I’ve really been meaning to read “Fallen!” School starts tomorrow – bleh.
Happy Monday, Sheila!
RIGHT! See school starting tomorrow is a “woo hoo” for me because Chance is staying with us and he is starting to climb the walls….LOL
You will love Fallen!
I adore Kate Morton. I received The Forgotten Garden for Christmas.
I won Forgotten garden a long time ago…. cant remember whose blog…. I am glad to have a chance to read it.
I like the look of The Forgotten Garden…maybe I’ll get to that one this year!
Have a great week….
I have been wanting to read Kate Morton for some time Laurel, glad to have an excuse to push others aside for this one now.
Kate Morton is a fave of mine, beautiful writing and I loved The Forgotten Garden. Can’t wait to read her new one The Distant Hours.
Have a wonderful week and hope you get in a little more reading time 🙂
Reading time will be tricky this week Sheree but I am really trying to find more time. When I do have time to really dig into a book I just love it. I need more of that instead of a few pages here and there 🙂
loved loved loved the forgotten garden and i have the distant hours waiting
will be interested to hear your thoughts
OOH I like that Diana, I hope it is a great read to kick off our book club year.
My aunt, who has excellent taste in books raved about The Forgotten Garden the last time she visited. When she saw my blog post with my goals for 2011, she emailed me to remind me that I just have to read The Forgotten Garden soon. I don’t think there is higher praise to be had! Enjoy your week!
Thanks Jen, that is high praise and the more comments about the book I am reading here the more excited I am about it!
I’ve been wanting to read The Kitchen Boy for awhile, I have an obsession with the Romanov’s so anything about them is pretty interesting to me. Good luck this week 🙂
Crystal I want to know more about them too, every time I stumble across a book about them I want to know more.
I have The Kitchen Boy in my TBR pile for this year. It’s been one I’ve been meaning to get to for a long time. Can’t wait to read your review. Hope you have a great reading week and are able to relax a bit!!
I had to shake up the YA genre I have been reading Emily – needed a mix in there before I continued on with the sequels 😀
Oh The Forgotten Garden looks really good! Look forward to that review 🙂
Have a blessed week !
Thanks Loren, I am excited to get into that one!
I liked your review of Safe Haven. I was pleasantly surprised by this book too after years of avoiding his books.
I hope you enjoy your reading this week. I’ve heard that Kate Morton is excellent.
Thanks you Christina, I am trying to get reviews posted right away from my reading this year – I write so much better when the book is fresh in my mind. I wrote that one within minutes of finishing it.
I’ve heard wonderful things about The Forgotten Garden, so you should have a great week in books.
Thanks Kathy, I think it will be a good week – just have to find the reading time 😀
Nice lineup for the week. I’m another who loved The Forgotten Garden…….and Kate Morton’s other two books.
Happy reading!
This will be my first Kate Morton Cat. I am excited. 😀
Gonna check out that challenge. I hope you have time to finish Torment 🙂
Oh good Samita – I think we are going to have a lot of fun with that this year 😀
The Forgotten Garden is awesome!
Thanks Bookmagics, I have heard good things about it.
the kitchen boy looks really interesting!!
I am enjoying it Carrie.
I read the Kitchen Boy a few years ago and LOVED it…so much so that I went on a Romanov reading binge.
Have a great week!
I would like to read some non fiction on the family Melissa, any suggestions?
Although some of the YAs look interesting I just don’t get pulled in too much by them… unless they have a heavy fantasy or paranormal element like Clockwork Angel that I just finished which just happens to involve teen characters.
I think you will enjoy The Forgotten Garden. I listened to it on Audible last year and liked it.
Have a great week.
I think I will like Forgotten Garden too Martha and I am hopeful it will make a great discussion book to kick off our 2011 book club. 🙂
I’ve had The Forgotten Garden on my shelf for a year now and still haven’t gotten around to reading it. Hmmm maybe that’ll be my random selection this week…
It should be Alita – I mean really, we will have to have a pinky swear in 2011 too…. LOL
The Forgotten Garden, is it a classic book?
The Kitchen Boy more looks like an photograph 😀
happy reading, Sheila
Not a classic Aleetha but I have heard the author is incredible. 🙂
I also read A Thousand Splendid Suns in December, and thought it was excellent. The last book I finished was Smoke Screen by Kyle Mills, a pretty good novel about the politics of the tobacco industry. Now I’m reading Jamie Freveletti’s second thriller, Running Dark. It’s off to a goo start.
Patricia have you also read The Kite Runner? I loved that so much! Have an awesome week!
I didn’t get as much reading last week. I have been sick with a cold and I was traveling.
I hope you’ll get well soon 🙂
I loved Distant Hours by Kate Morton! I’m anxious to hear about her other books!
Thanks Nancy – I am ready to try her!
I like the cover of the Forgotten Garden and Torment sounds like an interesting read
I think so too Novroz!
OK your review of Fallen has convinced me it is time I read this one too. Hope you have a terrific week.
Happy New Year too!
Thanks Jan! I hope you enjoy Fallen!
I didn’t do so well with reading this week – but another week is coming up….can’t seem to slow them down. 🙂
It was a busy week Mardel – I can understand the lack of reading time 🙂
I hope you enjoy Torment, I know I did!
It’s back to work for me tomorrow… Urgh!
I was back at work today Nikki-ann…. I hear you, I could have used a few more days 🙂
Good Luck with The Forgotten Garden. Just one person read this for our book club last year, which made for no discussion.
I read about half of it and handed my copy to someone in Omaha just before the move so I haven’t finished it. Let me know if I should after you are done (I was letting someone read my copy before I moved so they didn’t have to buy the book… I haven’t received it back yet).
Wow really Mari? I hope it is good….. you have me a bit nervous now…. 😀
Sliding in here a bit earlier this week! You’ve got a great looking list going! Stay warm, my friend!
Way to be early Sharon! 😀 It is cold out there – 17 below zero this morning… I really would just like to stay inside on days like this but my schedule will have none of that 😀
I want to read Kitchen Boy and The Lost Garden. Have you read The House of Riverton? I’ve heard that’s really good. It’s by Kate Morton also. I would love to read Torment. It reminds me of the cover of a book I just started called JANE by Alice Lindner.
Ok, I’m going to fill in Mr. Linky. Have missed coming by. Hope to get back in the routine quickly.
Hi Tea, I have not read that book – just trying Kate Morton for the first time…. 🙂
So, I’m a dork…I finished my post last night and went to bed without stopping by or linking up. I’ve been a bit out of it this week. LOL
I’m SO happy to hear your reading of Fallen turned out to be really good! I loved your review with the picture, it was hilarious! Now I may just have to find time to read the series.
Have a fabulous reading week and thanks again for hosting this great meme, I look forward to it every week! Happy New Year!
LOL Danielle – I am hoping to “personalize” my reviews like that this year when it is an actual book I have read…. 😀
Glad you remembered to come back and link up!
I’ve heard that The Forgotten Garden is good 🙂 Happy reading!
Thanks Aleksandra!
I loved A Thousand Splendid Suns! I read that a little while ago. I’m going to check out The Forgotten Garden!
Check it out Karen, I heard it is suppose to be good. 😀
Put my first pin in my map yesterday. Will be back and forth to visit today as stomach permits. See my blog for details 😦
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!
Oh Lori – sick??? 😦 Bummer! I want to stop by and see where you pegged your map!
I posted my first ever It’s Monday post and I’m so excited that I read all of the posts ahead of me on the LInky page — and, commented on 10 of them!
Thanks for the great meme!
YAY Joy – I hope you enjoy the meme, we have a lot of fun with it 😀
You will love The Forgotten Garden-I just finished The Distant Hours after dragging it across the continent a few times.
I just pulled it off the shelf Esme and *gulp* I did not realize it was so big. I have to get moving on it 😉
I have The Forgotten Garden in my TBR pile and can’t wait to read it.
Have a great week!
It is such a gorgeous looking book and I have heard great things about it Stephanie!
I love A Thousand Splendid Suns…enjoy
Happy New Year Sheila
Thanks – Happy New Year to you too!
Your books sound so good! I’ll be watching for your reviews. Hope you enjoy them and have a great week,
Natalie ;0)
Thanks Natalie 😉
The Kitchen Boy was a great book, plus Robert Alexander is from MN! And Kate Morton. You’re really kicking off 2011 in style!
My first of the year is Take A Chance on Me. It’s a lot of fun, good Brit Chick Lit!
Really Julie – I did not know that about either author! SWEET!!! 😀
Enjoy your read!
Oh, Wow! I was so busy at work today–I’m just now catching up on blog stuff. I’m so excited to see that I’m the winner! Thanks, Sheila!
I love the covers of all the books you’ve got up! They all look really interesting!
YAY Bev! Congratulations!
Torment’s on my reading list too… but maybe won’t get to it this week. 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you think about it.
Oh, I loved A Thousand Splendid Suns, even though parts of it were so difficult to read. I’ll have to jump over to see what you thought of it.
Sue
A belated Merry Christmas An d Happy New Year Sheila ! I have been rather too busy teaching and tutoring these days but I finally made it today to check out what you are upto. I have read ‘The Kitchen Boy’… it is interesting but my attention has been drawn to your Dean Koontz selections. I just finished another Frankenstein adaptation called ‘The Case Book Of Victor Frankenstein’ by Peter Ackroyd and it was pretty good…….and the ending was really spooky. If you have not read it yet….I feel you should try it…..
Dean Koontz will be interesting, I will try getting a copy of my own and join you.
